I had a very hard time last few years and I am researching and trying to rebuild a bit of paper passion. Susann is my cousin through marriage, yet when my Mother passed she came to visit with my cousin Tom and I felt like I had known her my entire life time.
Sadly, her Mother passed and I longed to do something but I just could not step outside my style. So I used a “stashed away” group of awesome things and pulled it together.
I began with a Canvas Corp Journal. Hard bound and with rings. I removed all the papers and put gesso on them. I collected everything I thought I could use and began creating again.
I
The papers are mixed. One is from Dress My Craft called Vintage Saga. It is thick and mostly glossy…but gorgeous. The other came from Amazon 12×12 designer papers. The theater tickets come from a Tim Holtz stamp. The beautiful fabric pieces from Boho Daydreams on Face Book.
Many of my images come from Tsunami Rose on Etsy and Graphic Fairy.com
Much of my lace was given to me, it was my Mother;s. Some came from Amazon. Some came from Boho Daydreams on Face Book and some from Lizzie Brewer in Junk Journal Junkies. The pink silk roses on the cover come from Alpha Stamps.
Much of my tags designs come from years in Tim Holtz groups and watching the awesome :Arty Maze” on you tube and Yvonne Preston White! Those ladies are so fabulous and I appreciate all they do to share their knowledge and craft.
This junk journal was made of a few of my favorite things.
They are parts of what we love and love to share.
Hope you enjoyed this. Please leave a kind word if you did.
Lately I have been cleaning my art supplies. Going through everything and making a list of the thousands of things I need. Oh my gosh I do mean thousand of things I need.
So in thinking about this I thought of all the stamps I have not used in so very long, techniques I had forgotten..so very much just abandoned. Then I was making coffee and I remembered the first journal of sorts I made with my new on line friends. Back then I had a mini tablet and no cell phone. I had never been on the computer. That was nine years ago. That was nine years ago. My first group was on yahoo “Stampers Anonymous”.
We made a small journal out of manila folders using all the stampers anonymous stamps..for just flat fun.
So I cut me a piece of Manila folder and found a old notebook full of Michaels’s flyers that was my Mothers. The cover will probably be the last thing I do.
I bet many have this little book. I took out the Michael’s pages and began a process of remembering my stamps.
I saw a theme challenge on Facebook with Wendy Vecchi’s group and it sprouted a idea.
Adding a alphabet background . I do not have her alphabet stencil in my collection and I was pretty shocked when I searched and discovered that. I used one of her letter mixed up alphabet stamps. It is one of her background stamps. I mixed Wendy Vecchi’s “Tea Rose” with some Perfect pears spray mist and some “Tattered Angels” here was the out come.
Since it was Halloween I thought red would be fun..and if you are looking for a perfect and I mean perfect blood color ever …this makes it.
This was one page and two tags. I had fun and began my new journal with my own abandoned stamps.
It has been a while since I have been blogging. I really over did this spring and cost myself a major set back…so moving slower but getting there again.
I am waiting on a armature to video tape this book and decided to proceed with my blog.
I have recently joined a group on face book called Junk Journal Junkies. I have also joined other junk journal groups since then. I cannot ever learn enough from all this.I spend a lot of time in the you tube land learning from very talented people making these gorgeous junk journals. I will add a few links at the bottom of this to get you started if you have not yet..watching these very talented people and you can add more to your subscribe list as I do… I hope not to offend any one if I do not put your link down but I have found so many, I am sure anyone really interested as I am ,will also.
I had not realized I had been making forms of Junk journals for many years but the organization being put together… I had not done before. When I began to look at the beautiful ways people did organize and put them together… I was so amazed..but actually doing it myself I knew as in all things would be practice.
I used Prima paper. This is beautiful 6×6 paper. This is a one secretary journal.
I did not add the flowers lace and ribbon until I finished the journal. I also put three coats of Plaid Petal Porcelain on the front and back.
The flowers are a mixture of my stash. The large cream one is Prima and the little pink roses I purchased years ago and I cannot tell you where I got them. The cameo
came from the Etsy store I fell in love with ..just click the word cameo and it will take you there. The lace is some from my stash and pieces from my Canvas Corp Brand 7 Gypsies.
This pattern was one of my Grandmothers, Her name was Lois June . She loved to sew. I scanned it and made it smaller. I glued it in and stained it with Vintage Photo Distress Ink by Ranger Ink.I left the top open making it a pocket. I added washi tape I purchased at office Depot. The washi tape at the top is from Canvas Corp Brands in their sale department.
The pocket on the right is also from Canvas Corp Brands 7 gypsies paper.I cut it down and made another pocket.
The small tag was actually copied from a die someone sent me. I traced around it on manila folder and cut it out stained it again with Vintage photo. The sentiment “Look into my eyes” is a stamp I have and the brand name is worn off. The Butterfly is from Stampers Anonymous. It is a Wendy Vecchi stamp.
The Paris travel stamp is from Dawn Houser inkadinkado. The Germany postage stamp is from Stampers Anonymous,”Happy Day” is unknown as is the compass stamp.
(I see a stamp list being made in my future lol)
The coffee ring stamp is from France Papalon at Stampotique.
Let your heart lead the way is from stampers Anonymous Wendy Vecchi collection and i added the travel stamps again along with staining with broken china Distress Ink.
This little post card was in my stash and I did not label where I got it..the back was blank so I added more stamping from Stampers Anonymous.
I can honestly say this was my first coffee staining adventure, yes all pages are coffee stained but not oven dried.
The page three has a smaller middle fold so the photos include this.
on the left top under the ideology paper clip is a piece of ephemera unknown to me where I got her…behind her the blue is my own mixed ink paper blank on the back and a tag with a stampers Anonymous airplane.
The bird is from Tim Holtz collection the compass is also. The paper was from my stash I believe it was recollections I purchased at Michaels. The butterflies on the left top is also Tim Holtz collection.
I do not know where all my images came from I am going to research and make a folder file on this..the tag is stained in Vintage photo and the border stamp is stampers anonymous.
just some coffee stained papers to journal on.
page 7
The flower paper which is a tuck and the image is a tuck at the top holing a index card under it. coffee stained paper at the right.
The little paper is stamped with a Tim Holtz butterfly the flowered paper is also a tuck and the paper is from Michaels Recollections..”notes and Quotes” is from Wendy Vecchi collection at Stampers Anonymous ..the Gothic swirl stamp is unknow to me the title and company is flat wore off the stamp lol.
Page 13 and 14
I used the Prima paper pack again for this side pocket. The inside items are in the photo, a small tag “notes” the index card and the small folded letter. The paper clip has a Tim’s ideology added to it that say’s “love”.
The “I never travel alone…stamp I will have to find the stamp again to know…lol
Page 15 and 16
The fabric is from my Mothers sewing basket when I was a little girl..one of my grade school dresses or my sisters. The cut images are from Canvas Corp Brands papers.
On page 16 the post the small papers from Michaels except the one little purple and white flowered tag. The die is a Tim Holtz die cut in half as a tuck. the black and white on sides is washi tape from Michaels.
the fashion tag goes behind the post card tuck
page 17 and 18
Again I used the 7 Gypsies paper cut to a tuck on the bottom left hand corner I felt better adding the black and white washi tape the index card and the tag are also stamped.
Page 19 and 20
It is coffee stained as I stated before but not oven dried. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink “Broken China” to distress the edges. Again, I used the coffee stained stamp by France Papalon. The little sentiment on the bottom left is not a tuck and is from 7Gypsies at Canvas Corp Brands. The lace border on the top is the Stampers Anonymous stamp I believe..I will be making a stamps journal and get better at identifying them
this is the other side of the small coffee stained lined paper for journaling.
This is a beautiful page to me. The little card on the bottom right was a stationary card from my Mother’s set. I lost my mom last year January 28.I especially loved adding this tuck.It reminded me of her magical beauty we all see in our Mother’s.
This is the tag that goes behind the stationary card tuck.
I also put a small piece of washi tape on the small journaling paper in the middle. It is very beautiful tape with small Japaneses Birds.
Page 21 and 22
The right side is stained in Distress Vintage Photo the script stamp is fro Wendy Vecchi at stampers Anonymous.
On the right side is a tuck full of goodies
This little tag was made from a 12 x 12 sheet of beautiful paper from Canvas Corp Brands. It has many many little vintage images on it I sat and cut them up and made many small tags like this. There is some travel washi tape I purchased from Office Depot.
This is a small photo of part of the 12×12 paper so as you can see I cut for a while. This is the right side another pocket.
Page 23 ,24,25and 26
The left side of the page is the second half of the pocket I just showed you from pages 22 and 23.
The following pages are for journaling
Pages 27 and 28
This little mail tag is a tuck. IÂ again stress I must study my stamps and down loads and make a journal of where things come from. I made a index card to go under it The heart with a lady in it is from involk art stamps
.
The right side is a pocket made from scraps and the index card inside is stamped with a vintage lady..again unknown…and the script on the top left of the index card is from Wendy Vecchi script stamp.
Page 29 and 30
The paper I cut many little images from..yes I used a bit more 7Gypsies beautiful paper..black and white washi tape and on the right side a paper doily. The little papers are blank on the back to journal on.
The final page and the back cover
on the left a doily and a tag and on the right a pocket. The girl image is from Creative Sould with Angel Kennedy and the post card is from Canvas Corp Brands it is double sided and beautiful.
and the back cover
I loved this experience as imperfect as it is. I also plan on starting a log of all my materials from images to stamps..how interesting that will be to make.
Here are so you tube links and from their links you can find many many more.
Thanks for stopping in and your comments are so appreciated.
I have so many wonderful friends on line. I have to pay a tribute to Marjie Kemper today. I have been looking at her art on Pinterest .com. Marjie…… in memory of the day when we mixed everything with distressed ink stamped till we were crazy played with everything else we could sending you a on line friendship card. Thanks for pulling me to my roots and making me smile today and feel the joy. You are such a fabulous friend.
Hi everyone. If you are like me experimenting in our journals is a must do constantly. I am so proud to be a member of Canvas Corp Brands Creative team. They do carry very beautiful products and one line that I just adore is their Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist.
Glimmer Mist is exactly that. I use all the sprays in my journals Dyans Dylusions, Lindy’s Stamp Gang Tim Holtz…and each one has their own unique characteristic. what do I mean by that? Dyan’s Dylusions sprays have a solid pronounced hit when you spray them. They have a bolder color.Yes they are wonderful and beautiful. Lindy’s Stamp Gang touches more toward the Glimmer Mist when you spray it has far as the metallic reflections and smooth reaction…but the key to the difference is the word MIST.so..I wanted to show you what I mean by that.
Working with journals and thick textured papers have been the in thing the past few years. So first let me share with you what paper I used because yes paper gives you different reactions. Canvas Corp Brands also carries Ken Oliver thick water color paper. It does not have a weight on the header but it does state made for the use of Ken Olivers ColorBurst and wet media.
I will show you the header.
I like gesso and I use many types. For this experiment I used regular Liquitex from Michaels Craft store.
I sprayed some beautiful Glimmer Mist into the gesso
As you can see the mist is fine ..also do not shake the Glimmer Mist up and down but rather shake it side to side.
My favorite stencils are from Stencil Girl. I let each layer dry completely with out heat gun.
I began adding a very light acrylic from Duncan.
The key is to let it dry and as you can see each time you spray the “Glimmer Mist” it will again refresh the color tone.
Here you can see the wet Glimmer Mist refreshing and I also added a deeper green contrasting color from the purple Glimmer Mist. The Glimmer Mist even when dry will stay wet looking even when dry on top of the gesso and acrylic.
so here is over 20 layers of acrylic gesso and “Glimmer Mist” and coated in two layers of Ranger Multi Medium Gloss.
At this time you can create what ever you wish on top but you have a gorgeous Textured 12×12 paper.
Thanks for stopping in…hope you enjoyed this..leave a comment if you would like.
Hi everyone. I hope this summer has been kind to you and you have had fun and growth. It is blistering hot here in West Texas right now and I just keep looking forward to fall. I love the cool weather in fall and the beautiful colors.Another thing I love to do is color. Especially when it is to hot to get things I really want to do accomplished…and it is just to dangerously hot.
I took some healing time after cleaning the sheds and thought deeply about where I wanted my art to go this next year.I have been making canvas art and I will be sharing soon some wonderful things I have made and developed new techniques and ideas with.
I am also designing my own line of stencils and stamps and I hope to have them published spring or summer of next year. The copy right thing is difficult to understand for me so my son is just going to have to help ..he has build web sites and worked for major media companies so this will be right up his alley. His press broke and everything fell apart at one time..but I think in two more months we will be up and running again. Oh my gosh what a time.So when they level and he is not so long in the oil fields working I will bug him and get that done.
I have kept things peaceful. Positive for the most part and healing. Healing is one of my work shops next year…and just to show you a brief picture of healing no work involved type journals just cut and glue…
I will be working with many types of people next year many disabled and injured so my friend and I have been gathering people magazines and much more catalogs that are out of date and preparing many workbooks for them to use in this.
Then there are journal sessions where Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels, gesso and many more wonderful things will be used….this one I can share more with you
I love Ken Oliver media paper. Canvas Corp Brands has this..and you will love it also. It is wonderful heavy weight paper I do more than water color on .
Another class I am having is making your own recipe cook book. I hope to get mine made in September and of course I have been given my Mothers recipe’s so part one will be a designed book using beautiful papers from Canvas Corp Brands and Part 2 will be designing your own written journal using news print onion paper typing paper and beautiful scraps from your part one designed book.
Textured canvas will be one of my tutorials and classes next year and it is very different from canvas to journal is the name I am thinking about giving it.
Grief will be another one of my workshops. I think after losing my Mother last year I have much to share and offer in this work shop. Grief is a part of our lives and it changes and alters us. I am hoping to offer positive focus on journals. I have lost all my family just about but my son and my Dad. I lost my twin when my son was eight years old and it seemed to never stop. ..and death is no respecter of persons but we as people have to heal from the experience.
Then I have a class of I just cannot keep up….journal dating life scheduling and learning to work with disabilities. another good one I excel at lol..but so important for people stepping into the change of things.
I will have meetings with many medical places next year to bring this into focus and learn from them what is available to people..and I will incorporate that knowledge into links and pamphlets and you tube tutorials.
Many things I have indeed been planning making and developing. I hope many pick up the torch with me that have been through the fires of these hard changes and just maybe….good wonderful things will come from this.
Careful planning has gone into this many many notebooks of ideas and research and development in the works and many years of notes.
I have not left many of you dear friends I had to plan and think and build..now I have to try to fold many dreams into a cake of reality.
One of my favorite things to do is make tags. Tags seem to be a comfort zone I find when things are harsh in my world. I simply get lost in making them.
Representing Canvas Corp Brands has been such a pleasure and one day I was looking at all my small scraps of canvas I was about to throw away and it hit me…glue them on the tags.Lets see what it looks like..what the out come is.Experimentation is the key in art..it is all experimentation.
so let me share with you the out come on some of my tags I made this week.

This page is again sprayed with beautiful glimmer mist. The large butterfly is paper from Sommerset Studio magazine.I love their freebie papers. The lovely lady clip is from Canvas Corp Brands 7Gypsies.
My little book will hold a high light of each month with a photo when I get them printed.
Welcome to my blog. I have been catching up with all the many projects running with Canvas Corp Brands. The question was..what is your favorite Tattered Angel product…or something to that effect.I love the glimmer mist right now.A favorite color?..ALL OF THEM!
So to support this project I took Glimmer Mist #15730 Marmalade.
Just one spray and gesso a stencil and gel matt medium..and I wanted to show you what one color can do.
I did accent with aqua colour arte sparkling h20 water color..the rest..is the power of play with Glimmer Mist.
This heart shaped box was in my Mothers stash of art wonderment. The ribbon was also but the beautiful canvas bow comes from Canvas Corp Brands as does the little brass heart . The little heart is from Canvas Corp Brands in the 7 Gypsies line.
